A Patriot Outfitters Review - Remington 700P vs Watermelon

 

We had a great time shooting this review of the Remington Sniper 700P vs watermelon using the RAM .308 AMAX Ammo.

It was no suprise that the .308 round from the Remington 700P would make a big mess. The "hydrostatic shock" from the high velocity projectile developed pressures from the moment of impact and left very few fragments for us to show and tell about.

... also, the Indiana Jones style header graphic used on the shoot page and on this spread was fun to design.

Ok, the Laser Phazer isn't a real Lethal Weapon but it is a prototype. And it happens to be April 1st today and so why not? :)

2010, 2011 and 2012 Military Pay Charts

Patriot Outfitters has recently posted the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Military Pay Charts.

Military pay increases do not begin until the beginning of the calendar year, even though military budgets operate off of the fiscal year from October 1 to September 30.

Military pay and allowances in the US are distributed on the 1st and 15th day of the month. Unless, this day falls on a weekend or a national holiday payment will be made on the working day prior.

I was working from home last night and heard footsteps behind me.

I turned to see who it was and found my 4 year old son standing next to me.

BlackHawk Desert Ops Boot Review

Welcome!  This is a Patriot Outfitters review of the extremely popular BlackHawk desert ops boot.

These boots were designed for the military wearer BY military guys that have been-there and done-that. 

The Desert Ops Boot features an oil-resistant Vibram outsole that, in addition to being really flexible, also provides excellent traction is all kinds of nasty terrain.

The pattern on the sole has big, open lugs which are great for getting traction when climbing and making sure mud doesn’t build up in the tread of your boot.

BlackHawk decided to use custom molded Ortholite insoles – which I have to tell you make a world of difference on your feet.  Those things really help with foot fatigue.

Running the length of the boot is a steel shank to provide extra support, which also helps fight foot fatigue.

The upper is made of a tough-as-nails nylon that is lightweight and breathable.  The toe and heal pads are made out of scuff and water resistant suede.

And inside the Desert Ops Boot is the Dri-Lex lining that wicks away sweat and water, which is great for keeping your boot dry and more importantly keeping your foot dry.

The fully gusseted tongue keeps debris from getting inside your boot, and a Nilon loop on the back helps you pull the boots on.

So, I’ve got to say that overall, not only is the BlackHawk Desert Ops Boot a great looking boot, it is very comfortable and built to take punishment.

Using all your protective gear, tactical eyewear, gloves and the right boots to keep yourself safe are the basics - but what can you do to help a long deployment go by as quickly as possible?

The military pays for your education as long as you're in - as long as you can access an Internet connection a couple of times a week, you can work toward a college degree and fight off boredom when you're not busy running missions, training or maintaining your tactical equipment.

Alleviate Stress

Deployment is stressful, whether you feel like it is or not. Many deployed troops turn to the gym, team sports and spending time with friends to help relieve the daily stresses of deployments.

Make Time for Friends

All work and no play isn't good for anybody. Even if your FOB, COB or camp doesn't have a fully-equipped MWR or entertainment facilities, make time to hang out with friends and get away from the constant work mentality.

Communication

You're away from your family and friends back home, and you may not have the ability to communicate with them as much as you'd like. If it helps you, make a video journal and communicate with your friends and family as if you're speaking to them.

Break up the Monotony

There are hundreds of websites packed with volunteers begging to send care packages and friendly notes to deployed troops. The people who participate in those programs are on your side and they want to help ease your deployment - so let them. You and your family can visit Soldiers' Angels, Love Boxes for Troops and many other organizations online.

Interact with your Troops

If you're an NCO with subordinates, your troops will appreciate any time you spend with them. While you can't fraternize, you can organize team activities and help them study for promotion boards, maintain or upgrade their tactical gear or just sit down and talk. Your time and effort will work wonders for morale and increase teamwork throughout the deployment.

Ask for Help

If you're having a difficult time dealing with the stresses of deployment, please don't hesitate to reach out to a friend, a supervisor or a military chaplain. Chaplains are experts at confidentiality, and many are disappointed that more troops don't take advantage of their availability.

Don't Get Discouraged

Unfortunately, the media sometimes focuses on the downside of combat operations, and that can wear on our deployed troops. Don't forget that there are millions of Americans who support you during your deployment; we all know you're heroes doing the right thing over there.

New Hospital helps military dogs through rehab

Every year there are millions of dollars spent on hi-tech gadgets for detecting bombs throughout the world but it's man's best friend, that still proves to be best bomb-detector.

Military dogs are trained as patrol dogs, explosives detector dogs and even therapy dogs.

Soldiers trust military dogs over metal detectors and mine sweepers but what happens to military dogs that are exposed to repeated explosions or prolonged deployments?

A new veterinary hospital at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, which opened Oct 21st provides rehab therapy for dogs that return from active duty and show signs of PTSD or are injured in battle.

The hospital was built to replace the original hospital built in 1969. It's run by the department of defense and has veterinary specialist on staff and state-of-the-art rehab equipment.
